Game Show Encyclopedia: A*mazing   and the specific Forums

A*mazing was an Australian children's television game show that aired in the mid to late 1990s on the Seven Network. It was famous for a relatively large and elaborate maze/obstacle course that was part of the show's studio set.

The show pitted teams from two different schools against each other during the course of a week.

The first two rounds of the game involved the contestants having to guess the answer to a question. If a correct response is given, they would then have to spell out the answer by stomping out the letters on a large QWERTY keyboard mounted in the floor. After this they would finally enter the maze, collecting the letters of the answer hidden within hiding places such as a garbage can, or behind a mock cactus. Points are given based on the number of collected letters they retrieve in the time spent in the maze.

In the third round, instead of featuring the keyboard the contestants competed in a video game face off. Contestants played Super Nintendo (and later Nintendo 64) games such as Tetris, Bubsy, Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario Kart/64. The team with the most points/fastest time would then go back to the maze to compete for more points and prizes; the most common being an original Game Boy (and subsequent Game Boy Pocket).

By the end of the week, the school with the highest number of points wins a grand prize, often educational computer software.

A*mazing was hosted by James Sherry for the entire run of the series.
