Game Show Encyclopedia: Talkabout

Talkabout was a Canadian game show hosted by Wayne Cox. The show ran for two seasons (1988-1990).

Gameplay
Two teams of 2 people played. One team (the returning champions would be first) would select one of two topics, while the other team is placed in isolation and can not hear anything. Each member of the talking team is given 20 seconds to "talk about" the selected topic in an attempt to say as many of 10 pre-selected words as possible pertaining to the topic, with each word being worth 1 point.

If the talking team says all 10 words, they receive the 10 points (as well as a $500 bonus). Otherwise, their opponents are brought back from isolation and shown all of the words not said. If they can correctly guess the topic, they steal the points, otherwise the points are given to the talking team.

Teams alternate talking until one team wins the game by scoring 15 points. The winning team goes on to play the bonus round and gets to return for the next game. 5 game champions received a bonus prize of $5000 which increased by $1,000 each week until won.

Bonus round
The winning team chooses one of two bonus prizes to play for. After the team chooses one of two topics to talk about, one member of the team is chosen to talk first, while the other is placed in an isolation booth. The first player is given 20 seconds to talk about the subject, with $100 being received for each word uncovered. If the player uncovers all 10 words, the team automatically receives $2000 and the bonus prize. Otherwise, the player must make a choice: keep the money won, or gamble for double the money.

If the first player chooses to gamble, the second player is removed from isolation and has one second for each word uncovered to say any one of the remaining words that the first player did not say. If successful, the team doubles the money won and receives the bonus prize. If unsuccessful, the team receives nothing.
