Celebrity Sweepstakes was a game show that aired during the 1970's. NBC ran it from April 1, 1974 to October 1, 1976. The show had 2 separate syndicated runs from 1974-75 and 1976-77.

Jim McKrell hosted the show. Bill Armstrong is the Announcer from 1974 to 1977. Dick Tufeld & John Harlan are the Sub-Announcers. Joey Bishop & Carol Wayne are the Regulars.


Format
2 contestants competed and started the game with $50.

A panel of six celebrities played the game. Host McKrell would read a question, and the studio audience would then take part in a quick poll by voting who they thought would answer the question correctly. After the voting was done, odds were set (much like a horse race). The contestants would then place bets on who they thought would answer correctly, and could bet $2, $5 or $10 (unless they had $10 or less, at which point their bet was automatically $2). Also, if the contestant bet the "favorite" they could bet as high as $100.

A correct answer would net the contestant the value of the bet ($10 bet on 5:1 celeb netted $50), an wrong answer lost the wager value only.

Later in the game, a contestant would have an opportunity to double their bet's potential by picking a second celebrity with the correct answer (if two or more celebs had it).

The final question of the day was played like so:

The odds were determined by how the celebrity had performed during the show. 
A player could only bet all or nothing and the bet wasn't revealed until the answer was. 
The player with the most money won the game and was able to return for up to 5 days on the NBC version (if the contestant made it to 3 days, they were awarded a new car).
